Description
Next time I see this UC Davis water tower I will be thinking of a scuba diver. In 1998, a specially trained scuba diver went into the tank 156 feet above the ground to inspect the lead based paint on the inside walls. It was determined the the tank needed a new paint job inside and out as well as structural repairs. The project was finished in October 2000 at a cost of $730,000. The tower, with a storage capacity of 200,000 gallons, helps maintain consistent pressure in the campus’s domestic water-supply system and helps meet peak water demands.
This view of the tower is along the arboretum trail in the campus, which runs along Putah Creek. The gps location is at 38.535066, -121.749703. With the right map website and gps knowledge, you can generate a similar view on your computer because the trail sights were recorded.
I’ve been working on mixed watermedia experiments. This 11” X 14” painting on a gessoed hardboard panel was done with 5% acrylic, 10% acrylic gouache, 30% casein, and 55% watercolor paint.
