Description
I participated in a sketchcrawl with the Placer Arts League at the Quarry Park in Rocklin, CA. We had a little over an hour to draw or paint something. I wasn't so happy with my first sketch of the quarry painting attempt with watercolor. After the event, I took a photo at the park of this rusted car and back home I sketched out this scene with an ink pen and painted it with watercolor to see if this technique will work for a future sketchcrawl. Of course I took a lot longer with this one so it is much more finished and detailed than what can be done in an hour.
Quarry Park is a central gathering place and picturesque setting for community events, concerts, quiet walks through nature, and active play. Quarry Park is home to an amphitheater, trails, open space, and wildlife. In 2017, Rocklin moved forward with plans to start designing an adventure park in the abandoned quarry at Quarry Park. Plans included a zip line down the seven-story quarry, rock climbing facilities on the quarry’s cliff face and creating high rope courses in the park.
This watercolor and ink painting is 12" X 16" on Arches cold press, 140 lb, watercolor paper.
