Description
#581 Stoneridge
Stoneridge located in the northeast corner of Roseville, California, and is one of over 40 neighborhoods in the city. Fifteen Neighborhood Associations have active websites and are members of the Roseville Coalition of Neighborhood Associations (RCNOA). The Stoneridge Neighborhood Association commissioned me to paint an image of their area which was inspired by an upcoming Harry Crabb Park celebration. I decided the best way to get a feel of the neighborhood was to drive around and look for myself, starting with the Harry Crabb Park. I was surprised to see a giant fifteen foot high water play crab structure at the Harry Crabb Park. You can easily walk under the crab. The park was named after Harry Crabb who served four terms as mayor of Roseville and had much to do with shaping what Roseville is today.
From a corner of the park you can view the Secret Ravine Parkway Bridge spanning the False Ravine. The False Ravine trail connects with better known Miner’s Ravine trail. Beyond that is hill sloping up to streets and homes at different levels. Next to the Stoneridge Elementary school is a park with another water feature in the form of a fish. The larger than human-sized fish holds a fishing rod seen by locals but is relatively unknown to the rest of Roseville. Elliot Homes was the major developer for Stoneridge and the concrete and stone Stoneridge signs are the intersection of Sierra College Drive and Secret Ravine Parkway. I incorporated all these elements into my fictional view of the Stoneridge Neighborhood.
This 11” X 15” watercolor was done on Arches, 140 lb, rough paper.
