Description
This painting was a gift for my dear friends, Galen and Jenny Leung. I’ve known Galen since I was in 5th grade when we were both in an after school science program at Galileo High School in San Francisco. Galen and Jenny have always been very supportive of my art. When I first tried watercolor back in the mid-90’s I had painted a portrait of Jenny and her baby son, Eric. Then I quit painting for two decades before restarting a few years ago. This recent painting is of their grandson of their daughter, Sandy. Mason is the next generation after Eric and Sandy.
This painting makes me think of three things. First when Jenny reminded me that Eric is now in his 20’s, it was like “Wow, how time flies.” Secondly, I realized I lost a whole generation of time when I did not paint. Third, barring disaster, I might only have another generation of time left to paint.
My Uncle, Wilfred Tsang, once said to me “There are only so many visits in life.” He died the following year. There is a finite number of times you will visit family and friends, days you walk your dog, or paintings you can paint. I better not waste my last generation of time and keep painting.
This 16” X 12” watercolor painting was done on Arches, cold press, 140 lb watercolor paper.
