Description
I attended the Nevada City Victorian Christmas event last year with a Meetup group. Nevada City is a quaint, scenic, historic, and sometimes quirky town of just over 3,000 people in the Sierra foothills. Many of the town’s residents are descendants of Gold Rush immigrants who arrived in Nevada City from Cornwall, bringing with them the tradition of lively street celebrations from Victorian England. The Victoria Christmas celebration in Nevada City started in 1978.
I saw this group of carolers on Broad Street near the National Hotel. I liked the look of the Victorian style house on Broad Street and Cottage Street about three blocks away. For this watercolor painting I combined the two. If this was a scene back East there would be snow, but this is sunny California.
Watercolor painting is 15" X 22" on Kilimanjaro, cold press, 140 lb watercolor paper.
