Description
On July 4th, I saw the Capitol Pops concert perform at a free concert in Royer Park, Roseville, California. The band played a wide variety of music for the patriotic theme of Independence Day. I thought it would be a challenge to do a watercolor painting of a group of people. The music stands are actually black but I changed them to color just to see what that would look like.
Capitols Pops Concert Band (CPCB) is a non-profit organization of volunteer musicians dedicated to performing high quality music for the community. CPCB is self-supporting and provides scholarships to local student musicians.
Since 1997, the Capitol Pops has performed a diverse portfolio of high-quality, well-prepared music for thousands of patrons throughout Northern California. Based in Citrus Heights, the band is under the leadership of Director Kurt Pearsall. It's a self-supporting, all-volunteer band of 65 members. The musicians represent a wide cross-section of the Sacramento area, ranging in age from 12 to 94. Always on the lookout for musical talent, the Capitol Pops aims to promote and sponsor student participation in the band.
This 15” X 22” watercolor and ink painting was painted on Saunders, rough, 140 lb paper.
