I went nuts for this painting, pistachios to be precise. On the Pleasant Grove Creek Trail I saw interesting trees that weren’t native and I discovered that they were pistachio trees. There are groups of trees are at several locations along the trail including what appears to be an abandoned orchard at the end of the aptly named street, Orchard View Road in Roseville, California. Knowing that housing tract named Fiddyment Farms isn’t that far away, it doesn’t take much to figure out the history and how the pistachios got here. David Fiddyment is a pioneer in the American pistachio industry, with his first orchard started in Roseville, California, 1968. David Fiddyment designed an innovative hulling machine that hulls and dries his crops within minutes after harvest. This is important because pistachios spoil rapidly if not dried soon after picking. Fiddyment Farms pistachios are fresher, are of the highest quality, and simply taste better.

My search to find my biological family was the genesis of my journey into the world of art. When I finally found my birth family, at the age of 40, I was plunged into a new and very different family. On one occasion while talking with the father I had never known, I discovered that my great uncle was the renowned watercolorist Dong Kingman. Fatefully discovering a cheap watercolor paint set, and intrigued by my relationship with Kingman, I wondered if I had inherited any of his talent.
