Artist's Description

Along the horizon you are looking at the back of the Nimbus Dam as viewed from the Nimbus Flat State Recreation Area in Gold River, California. On the left side just above the dam is the American River Bridge (Hazel Avenue) which leads through the bluffs to the city of Fair Oaks. The Sacramento Aquatic Center is near Nimbus Flat and that’s where you can get boating instructions and rent equipment like a single kayak for $12 an hour or canoe for $16. The classes include sailing, wind surfing, and rowing. That’s probably where those sailboats came from in my watercolor painting. There is also a boat ramp available at Nimbus Flat.

The water in Lake Natoma, which is the lake created by Nimbus Dam, is too cold for warm water production of fish, and never has the lake been a natural producer of fish. The rapid water exchange from Nimbus Dam sharply decreases the production of plankton, which inhibits trout growth. The Department of Fish and Game annually plants Lake Natoma...

My search to find my biological family was the genesis of my journey into the world of art. When I finally found my birth family, at the age of 40, I was plunged into a new and very different family. On one occasion while talking with the father I had never known, I discovered that my great uncle was the renowned watercolorist Dong Kingman. Fatefully discovering a cheap watercolor paint set, and intrigued by my relationship with Kingman, I wondered if I had inherited any of his talent.
