Artist's Description
This is my watercolor painting of the Pleasant Grove Organic Farm mill structures and office. Pleasant Grove Farms is a third generation family farm located north of Sacramento in Pleasant Grove, California. Owner, Ed Sills, manages the farm which consists of over 3,000 acres of certified organic land. These buildings are of their seed cleaning and bagging facility (the Mill) where they prepare many of the field crops for sale into the food, feed, and seed markets. In addition, they provide seed cleaning services for other organic farmers and food companies. Pleasant Grove Farms performs on-farm research aimed at increasing the sustainability of our organic practices while improving yields and reducing off-farm inputs. We were fortunate that Ed Sills gave us a personal tour of the farm and he is presently growing rice, red kidney beans, and popcorn.
This 15” X 22” watercolor painting was done on Arches, 140 lb, rough paper.

As a fan of Van Gogh, and knowing that he painted images from his day to day life: houses, fields, people working, I decided to do the...
