Artist's Description

At the High Hand Nursery in Loomis, I saw this view of the Koi pond that had an interesting pattern of black and gray waves. Using a reference photograph I painted a full sheet of the Koi and ripples. The black parts of the waves were carefully painted with a brush and black ink which took a number of days to get it just right. The rest was painted with watercolor and the Koi stood out against the black and white background.

This 22" X 30" painting was done on a sheet of Winsor Newton,140 lb, cold press watercolor paper.
