Artist's Description

This clocktower in downtown Auburn, CA, was restored about eight years ago. Across the street behind the clocktower is a building with green trim. On the left side of that building is the Placer Arts gallery and office. The Placer Arts League (PAL) is a sub group of Placer Arts. You can join PAL and enjoy their monthly meetings often with an art demonstration. Once in a while they have sketch crawls so you can come sketch too!

I went on my first sketch crawl with the Placer Arts League in Auburn this year. Not happy with my sketch, I went home and painted the same area in watercolor just to rid that not so great sketch out of my mind. Since that time I modified my art materials and will attempt to learn how to sketch better. Sketching technique is not as simple as it looks, it takes practice. I need a lot more practice.

This watercolor was done on Arches, 12" X 16", cold press, 140 lb paper.

This lingering question spurred me into trying to paint. My first challenge was deciding what subjects I would paint. As a fan of Van Gogh, and knowing that he painted images from his day to day life: houses, fields, people working, I decided to do the...
