Artist's Description

The subject of this painting is my youngest daughter, Kira. She is about eleven years old in the reference photo taken around 1995. Kira is stacking weathered lava rocks on our vacation trip to Maui. Reminds you how simple entertainment was before smartphones and tablets. When we were kids you just interacted with nature, getting fresh air, exercise, and sunshine. Now the kids are plugged in mentally to electronic gadgets. Kira has BA degree from UCLA and a Doctor of Law degree from Cornell, so maybe playing with rocks is more profound than it looks.

This painting was done in transparent watercolor.
