Artist's Description

This is a painting of the South Yuba River, located northwest of Nevada City and Grass Valley off of Highway 49. It has been a popular swimming spot for over a hundred years. The Bridgeport Covered Bridge was built in 1862, not far from this part of the river. The bridge was an important link in a freight-hauling route that stretched from the San Francisco Bay to Virginia City, Nevada and points beyond after the discovery of the Comstock Lode in 1859 sparked a mining boom in Nevada. This painting was done in transparent watercolor.
