The Pine Trails Horse Ranch in California, has an area with saddles on racks. I looked up information about saddles and found out that it is very complex topic. Saddles have a long history, design variations for world regions, and serve different functions. In California you are likely see two types of saddles, either an English saddle or a Western saddle. The modern Western saddle was developed from the Spanish saddles that were brought by the Spanish Conquistadors when they came to the Americas. These saddles were adapted to suit the needs of vaqueros and cowboys of Mexico, Texas and California, including the addition of a horn that allowed a lariat to be tied or dallied for the purpose of holding cattle and other livestock. English saddles are used for English riding throughout the world, not just in England or English-speaking countries. My search to find my biological family was the genesis of my journey into the world of art. When I finally found my birth family, at the age of 40, I was plunged into a new and very different family. On one occasion while talking with the father I had never known, I discovered that my great uncle was the renowned watercolorist Dong Kingman. Fatefully discovering a cheap watercolor paint set, and intrigued by my relationship with Kingman, I wondered if I had inherited any of his talent.
