Artist's Description

When you’re driving on the western edge of Roseville, California, you can see two tall towers off in the distance. Those Heat Recovery Steam Generator Stacks are a part of the Roseville Energy Park which came online in 2007. A brilliant move by Roseville to plan and build their own energy plant to produce electricity separate from Pacific, Gas, & Electric, (PG&E) which is the main utility company servicing most of Northern California. When compared to utility costs in neighboring Placer County communities, Roseville Electric Utility customers have electrical cost savings of about $20 million each year.

In recent years because of lack of proper infrastructure maintenance, PG&E power lines have sparked some devastating and deadly wild fires in California. As a result of law suits, PG&E, has to shut down the electrical system for high wind events during fire season. My search to find my biological family was the genesis of my journey into the world of art. When I finally found my birth family, at the age of 40, I was plunged into a new and very different family. On one occasion while talking with the father I had never known, I discovered that my great uncle was the renowned watercolorist Dong Kingman. Fatefully discovering a cheap watercolor paint set, and intrigued by my relationship with Kingman, I wondered if I had inherited any of his talent. This lingering question spurred me into trying to paint. My first challenge was deciding what subjects I would paint.
