Description
When you’re driving on the western edge of Roseville, California, you can see two tall towers off in the distance. Those Heat Recovery Steam Generator Stacks are a part of the Roseville Energy Park which came online in 2007. A brilliant move by Roseville to plan and build their own energy plant to produce electricity separate from Pacific, Gas, & Electric, (PG&E) which is the main utility company servicing most of Northern California. When compared to utility costs in neighboring Placer County communities, Roseville Electric Utility customers have electrical cost savings of about $20 million each year.
In recent years because of lack of proper infrastructure maintenance, PG&E power lines have sparked some devastating and deadly wild fires in California. As a result of law suits, PG&E, has to shut down the electrical system for high wind events during fire season. When that happens there’s no power to air conditioners, medical equipment, refrigerators, internet/computers, and household appliances unless you have your own generator. Except for Roseville, because our electric power is separate from PG&E and we don’t shut down. Yes indeed, it was brilliant planning.
This 11” X 15” watercolor was done on Fabriano Aristico, 140 lb, rough paper.
