Description
The Deli across the street from Union Pacific Railroad's Roseville engine facility is aptly named the Roundhouse Deli. In 1908, the railroad moved its operation to this location in Roseville, California, and I’m sure it wasn’t long after that this structure was built. The building eventually served as a beanery for many years before the Deli business began. The Roundhouse Deli with the tiny dining area has been featured several times on the TV show, “Good Day Sacramento.” Railroad workers and locals enjoy the cuisine which includes their signature special, Tri-tip Taco. Parked in front of the Deli on the street is a large smoker BBQ on wheels. The owner smokes his famous tri-tip tacos every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday.
The interior is decorated with railroad and Highway 40 memorabilia. There are historic photos of Roseville on the wall which include Southern Pacific and Union Pacific subjects. The small diner has a hole in the wall feel and although it has changed owners over the many years, but it never lost the reputation for good food. Roundhouse Deli is listed on Yelp’s “America’s Top 100 Places to Eat in 2020.”
This 11” X 15” watercolor was done on Arches, 300 lb, cold press paper.
