You will never guess what this mansion is today. James Kaseberg was a German immigrant who came to America in 1853, making his way to California where initially he worked in the teaming business between Sacramento and Nevada City. He later transitioned to the sheep business near Roseville, and after much hard work and diligence was able to buy out his partner's and buy enormous tracts of land which became the 50,000 acre (78 square miles) Kaseberg Ranch between Roseville and the Sacramento River. In 1892, he had a great Victorian mansion built on a wooded knoll overlooking his Diamond K Ranch. He died at his ranch August 13, 1905 at the age of 78. His son William continued the operation of the ranch until his death in 1954. In 1992, Diamond K Estates Homeowners Association incorporated. Of 63 acres from the original 50,000 acres, is now a 55+ (senior) mobile home community that surrounds the Kaseberg Mansion. The mansion is now used as the mobile home office. My search to find my biological family was the genesis of my journey into the world of art. When I finally found my birth family, at the age of 40, I was plunged into a new and very different family. On one occasion while talking with the father I had never known, I discovered that my great uncle was the renowned watercolorist Dong Kingman. Fatefully discovering a cheap watercolor paint set, and intrigued by my relationship with Kingman, I wondered if I had inherited any of his talent.
