Description
Kids having fun in a playground of tires is what inspired this painting. A clever way to recycle tractor tires at Bishop’s Pumpkin Farm, Wheatland, California. Bishop’s Pumpkin Farm is always a big hit in the fall, drawing locals and many tourists to this small town. Someone coined a term for this as Agritourism.
In 1932 Allis Chalmers was the first tractor manufacturer to offer rubber tires on their Model “U” Tractor. In order to convince the skeptical American Farmer that rubber tires were far superior to steel wheels, Allis Chalmers and Firestone launched a brilliant marketing campaign. They employed racing legend Barney Oldfield, and land-speed daredevil Ab Jenkins to run modified “U” tractors in speed demonstrations across the country. Before Harvey died in 1938, he was able to see his vision become a reality as rubber tires were by then standard equipment for the majority of American farms and the idea was going global.
This 15” X 22” watercolor was done on Arches, 140 lb, rough paper.
