Cats mark territory by rubbing objects, like this post at the back of a two-story farm house. Several pheromones are currently known to exist as "feline facial pheromones" and are produced from glands located around the mouth, chin, forehead and cheeks. These are only some of the many pheromones that cats produce. Others are from lower back, tail and paws. Iām not sure if particular this cat was leaving pheromones or just loving a rub on the rump but he certainly got my attention at the Oliver Farms in Woodland, California. When I saw the sky blue eyes, I knew I had to paint this cat.
The Yolo Art-Ag sponsored an Oliver Farms visit allowing artists and photographers to see the two-story house was built in 1902 by the Lowes family who raised horses which were sold to the San Francisco Fire Dept. Sally and George Oliver moved there over a half century ago to grow Almonds. Sally Oliver is still living there today and this is her cat.

My search to find my biological family was the genesis of my journey into the world of art. When I finally found my birth family, at the age of 40, I was plunged into a new and very different family. On one occasion while talking with the father I had never known, I discovered that my great uncle was the renowned watercolorist Dong Kingman. Fatefully discovering a cheap watercolor paint set, and intrigued by my relationship with Kingman, I wondered if I had inherited any of his talent.
