Description
Cats mark territory by rubbing objects, like this post at the back of a two-story farm house. Several pheromones are currently known to exist as "feline facial pheromones" and are produced from glands located around the mouth, chin, forehead and cheeks. These are only some of the many pheromones that cats produce. Others are from lower back, tail and paws. Iām not sure if particular this cat was leaving pheromones or just loving a rub on the rump but he certainly got my attention at the Oliver Farms in Woodland, California. When I saw the sky blue eyes, I knew I had to paint this cat.
The Yolo Art-Ag sponsored an Oliver Farms visit allowing artists and photographers to see the two-story house was built in 1902 by the Lowes family who raised horses which were sold to the San Francisco Fire Dept. Sally and George Oliver moved there over a half century ago to grow Almonds. Sally Oliver is still living there today and this is her cat.
The 11ā X 15ā watercolor was done on Arches, 140 lb, rough paper.
