Description
This is my watercolor painting of Main Street in Newcastle, California. A small town with a population of roughly 1,300 people and with a post office that opened in 1864. The overhead power lines and wires caught my attention as well as the architecture in this hilly downtown area. The power lines seem to go in random directions every which way. A few lines go the building lurking in the shadows which is the Newcastle Pizzeria with hand made wood fired pizza.
In California due to power line caused wildfires, deaths, and recent lawsuits, if the wind is strong and the fire conditions are bad, they shut down electric power to the region. Sometimes those power-outs last for multiple days. One possible answer to the problem is to put most of the power lines underground but that change is very costly. According to Pacific Gas & Electric estimates, it costs approximately $3 million per mile to convert underground electric distribution lines from overhead. Because of this, Iām sure my painting with the the overhead wires is going to be a reality for a very long time.
This 15ā X 22ā watercolor was done on Arches, 140 lb, rough paper.
