Challenge your brain with a jigsaw puzzle designed by an independent artist!   Our puzzles are made from premium 0.2" thick paper stock and include a semi-gloss coating on the top surface to make the image pop.   Puzzles are available in two different sizes, and each puzzle includes a puzzle box with the artwork printed on the top for safe storage when you're not puzzling.   The puzzle pieces are unique shapes.

Artist's Description

This is my watercolor painting of a Prickly Pear I saw at the Center for Land-based Learning in Woodland, California. The visit was hosted by the Yolo Art-Ag organization. Prickly pear is a member of the cactus (Cactaceae) plant family native to the Western Hemisphere. It can grow up to 18 feet high and produces yellow, red or purple flowers and bright pink/red, spiky fruits. This cactus goes by several names, including tuna, sabra, nopal and paddle cactus. “Tuna” and “pears” describe the spiky fruits themselves, while the cactus’s branches are known as pads or nopales. It is a staple food item in Mexico.

Prickly Pear was imported into Australia in the 18th century for gardens, natural agricultural fencing and in an attempt to establish a cochineal dye industry. They quickly became a widespread invasive weed, eventually converting 101,000 sq mi of farming land into an impenetrable jungle of prickly pear, in places 20 ft high. My search to find my biological family was the genesis of my journey into the world of art. When I finally found my birth family, at the age of 40, I was plunged into a new and very different family. On one occasion while talking with the father I had never known, I discovered that my great uncle was the renowned watercolorist Dong Kingman. Fatefully discovering a cheap watercolor paint set, and intrigued by my relationship with Kingman, I wondered if I had inherited any of his talent. This lingering question spurred me into trying to paint. My first challenge was deciding what subjects I would paint.
