My experiment with casein and watercolor painting was of a house at 424 Oak Street in Roseville, California, one block from City Hall. The house was built by William Haman in 1909. “The Haman House is typical of large homes built on ranches in the western United States during the period of its construction. It has the basic form, geometry and scale of the Victorian homes of the period, but lacks the ornate curvilinear decoration and exotic roof lines that the latter implies.” William Haman arrived in California in the mid 1890s to work for Leland Stanford's Vina vineyards in Tehama County. He came to Roseville in 1906 to run the new Placer County Winery. With the prospect of prohibition looming, Haman closed the winery in 1918 and modified the buildings to open the Roseville Ice and Beverage Company. Mr. Haman was a member the first Roseville City Council, long time member of the Placer County Board of Supervisors and "The Father of Royer Park.

My search to find my biological family was the genesis of my journey into the world of art. When I finally found my birth family, at the age of 40, I was plunged into a new and very different family. On one occasion while talking with the father I had never known, I discovered that my great uncle was the renowned watercolorist Dong Kingman. Fatefully discovering a cheap watercolor paint set, and intrigued by my relationship with Kingman, I wondered if I had inherited any of his talent. Good question. I applied the puzzle option universally but apparently it only went back retroactively to the last dozen paintings. Tried to make it work for this Hamen House but no luck.
