Artist's Description

My watercolor painting of LouCinda Laughlin. LouCinda is a unique pastel artist in North Auburn, California. She is unique in technique and style. With no formal training, she created her own method using soft pastels that matched her geometric, kaleidoscope, mosaic vision of the landscapes, still-life and portraits she selects to paint. Her inspiration comes from travels to Europe and throughout the United States as well as friends, family and pets. The pastels capture the image or subject matter of the work but add a twist. Color and strong lines define her pastel work.

LouCinda Laughlin is the Chairperson for the North Auburn Artist Studios. Annually in spring they have the North Auburn Artist Studio Tour (NAAST) to showcase their work. LouCinda has produced videos to promote the artists and also coordinate regular showings in local businesses, like Tango Yogurt in Auburn.

This 15” X 22” watercolor was painted on Blick, 140 lb, cold press paper.

This lingering question spurred me into trying to paint. My first challenge was deciding what subjects I would paint. As a fan of Van Gogh, and knowing that he painted images from his day to day life: houses, fields, people working, I decided to do the...
