Artist's Description

This is my watercolor painting of the back corner of Roseville’s Civic Center/City Hall located at 311 Vernon Street. I thought this view was interesting because of the geometric shapes with the few colored window panels in one area. Although not apparent in a painting is the fact that this is the center of change in Roseville, literally. Not only because City Hall is the center for planning and controlling growth but what is physically around it.

Across the street is the new four‐story City Hall Annex located at 316 Vernon Street with a gross area of approximately 82,000 square feet, completed in 2016. To the left this painting is the new garage provides 429 free parking spaces on seven floors which opened in 2018. A half block from that garage is a new fire station which opened in 2019. My search to find my biological family was the genesis of my journey into the world of art. When I finally found my birth family, at the age of 40, I was plunged into a new and very different family. On one occasion while talking with the father I had never known, I discovered that my great uncle was the renowned watercolorist Dong Kingman. Fatefully discovering a cheap watercolor paint set, and intrigued by my relationship with Kingman, I wondered if I had inherited any of his talent. This lingering question spurred me into trying to paint. My first challenge was deciding what subjects I would paint.
