Description
I took the trail that went around the Griffith Quarry Park in Penryn. About 600’ west of the museum building there is a granite stairway where I saw this view. My watercolor painting is a colorful interpretation of that view. Dirt walking trails can be found throughout the 23-acre park. These trails take visitors through the ruins of the polishing mill and some of the quarry holes from which granite was taken. The granite is a relatively dark fine-grained granitoid with abundant biotite (black mica) plus black hornblende, white feldspar and a little gray quartz. Printed trail guides are available in the museum where there is a parking lot and picnic tables. Spring is the best time to go on the trails.
This 15” X 22” watercolor was done on Arches, rough, 140 lb paper.
