One morning I’m walking my dog, Mochi, and I see a kitten across the street sitting on a driveway. I figure the mother is around somewhere and keep walking. When I come back from the dog walk after an hour, the kitten is still sitting there. I walk closer with Mochi expecting to the kitten to run off. It doesn’t move, something’s wrong. With the hawks, coyotes, and the worst of all, cars driving by, this kitten isn’t going to survive. So I pick up the kitten, put him in a cat carrier, and start knocking on my neighbor’s doors. Nobody has a cat or knows anything about the kitten. The very last neighbor I checked with said he saw the cat in the middle of the street a few days ago but it ran away before he could catch it. Now I know for sure this cat isn’t going to survive without intervention because he’s not running anymore. After talking with the neighbor he agrees to take the kitten to the SPCA because I had an appointment out of town. That was my last look a...

My search to find my biological family was the genesis of my journey into the world of art. When I finally found my birth family, at the age of 40, I was plunged into a new and very different family. On one occasion while talking with the father I had never known, I discovered that my great uncle was the renowned watercolorist Dong Kingman. Fatefully discovering a cheap watercolor paint set, and intrigued by my relationship with Kingman, I wondered if I had inherited any of his talent.
