Description
The story behind painting… I was at a Folsom Arts Association meeting in January 2019 watching a demo by an artist. During the break, I spotted what I thought was an interesting object to paint. There were subtle color gradations, reflected light, mirror like surface on chrome, so I took a photo of this object. When was out in the hallway about go back to the meeting. Another artist asked me what I was painting recently. I took out my cell photo and was going to show what I was working on but forgot that I took that reference photo. A photo of a urinal pops up, and of course I get a curious look from the artist. I explained that I was planning to paint that in watercolor as a challenge. Fortunately that artist knew that I would actually paint it. Okay, it still does seem little strange.
Fast forward to the last Folsom Arts Association meeting in February 2019 and we had to introduce ourselves to the group. Everyone explained their medium and what they paint; landscape, flowers, portraits, etc… When it got to my turn and said watercolor and I painting anything. The other artist said, go ahead and tell them. So I describe the urinal painting as an example of how I will painting anything. I think from this point on, this group might associate me with a urinal. My art reputation down the drain, so to speak. Art is not without humor.
I decided Urinal would not be a good title. Porcelain Gradation is more fitting and sounds classier. This 20 ½” X 13 ½” watercolor painting was done on Bee, 140 lb, cold press watercolor paper.
