Artist's Description

It was an October afternoon in 2014 that I saw this view in the Fort Bragg area. I decided to try to paint this reference photo with a nine pigment palette which was used back in the 1940’s by a particular master. I wanted see if by using those pigments will replicate the essence of the watercolor paintings from that time period. After finishing the painting, I believe those pigments are major factor in recreating and understanding that California Regional style of watercolor painting. The watercolor pigments selected react with each other in specific ways, like a secret recipe. Change the pigments and it’s like changing the ingredients for your favorite cooking recipe. You end up with food but it won’t taste the same.
