Artist's Description
In June 2018, I had a chance to see David Peterson painting a watercolor of the Roseville City Hall. David is an award winning artist and leads a plein air group based out of Fair Oaks. He is amazingly fast and can complete a half sheet (15" x 22") in an hour. David is a past President of WASH (Watercolor Artists of Sacramento Horizons), event coordinator for Sacramento Fine Arts and has been awarded NCA Master Painter Signature status. The word Aquarellist is based on David's own website name, hence the title of this painting.
When I painted this watercolor of David, I tried to emulate his style for the painting. Which takes some effort to get out of my comfort zone. To intentionally paint a crooked line goes against my grain. But it's about learning and being "looser" in art, it's all good. This painting was done on a 15" X 22" sheet of Arches, rough, 140 lb paper.

My search to find my biological family was the genesis of my journey into the world of art. When I finally found my birth family, at the age of 40, I was plunged into a new and very different family. On one occasion while talking with the father I had never known, I discovered that my great uncle was the renowned watercolorist Dong Kingman. Fatefully discovering a cheap watercolor paint set, and intrigued by my relationship with Kingman, I wondered if I had inherited any of his talent. This lingering question spurred me into trying to paint. My first challenge was deciding what subjects I would paint.
