Artist's Description

In June 2018, I had a chance to see David Peterson painting a watercolor of the Roseville City Hall. David is an award winning artist and leads a plein air group based out of Fair Oaks. He is amazingly fast and can complete a half sheet (15" x 22") in an hour. David is a past President of WASH (Watercolor Artists of Sacramento Horizons), event coordinator for Sacramento Fine Arts and has been awarded NCA Master Painter Signature status. The word Aquarellist is based on David's own website name, hence the title of this painting.

When I painted this watercolor of David, I tried to emulate his style for the painting. Which takes some effort to get out of my comfort zone. To intentionally paint a crooked line goes against my grain. But it's about learning and being "looser" in art, it's all good. This painting was done on a 15" X 22" sheet of Arches, rough, 140 lb paper.

This lingering question spurred me into trying to paint. My first challenge was deciding what subjects I would paint. As a fan of Van Gogh, and knowing that he painted images from his day to day life: houses, fields, people working, I decided to do the...
