Glancing through your photos this morning, Bill. This photo caught my eye... Sort of looks like me :)

William Lum replied:

It took a few years for you to notice... Yes, it is you. It was a Placer Arts League outing.

Artist's Description

I painted a painting of a painter painting. On a visit to the High Hand Nursery in Loomis I saw several plein air painters. The term en plein air is simply French for “in the open air,” meaning plein air painting is just creating art outdoors. The French coined the phrase for it back in the 1800’s when painting outdoors really took off and its popularity skyrocketed. Though highly criticized and even ridiculed at first, Impressionism and its spin-offs greatly aided the popularity of plein air painting, as they believed the best and only way to paint this movement of light over nature was to be right there in front of it whilst painting.

This painting is different than my usual approach because I wanted to try something looser, lighter, and faster. I used an technical ink pen with an archival sepia colored ink and did a rapid sketch. Then I filled in the colors and shading with watercolor paint.
