Description
My nearest street corner is Mendota Way at Corin Drive. If you were standing in the middle of the street at the lower edge of the painting and look sharp left, you would see my house (not in the painting). This is the view I see every morning when I start my dog walk. If you could see 1/4 mile though that oak grassland you would see Fiddyment Road. The Fiddyment Homestead is about 1/4 mile in the opposite direction which is slated to become a historical museum. At one time the Fiddyment family owned 4,000 acres from here in Roseville to Folsom and they were noted for growing pistachios.
This painting really doesn't have much commercial value but I painted for myself because it has meaning to me. The asphalt on the road was redone so it had a deep rich blackness to it. The clouds were just right too in shape and color. I can tell it's garbage pick up day by the cans on the street. It's been over a year and things have already changed, like the house on the left is now painted a dark gray and a few shrubs on the right have been moved. It just shows you how urban areas are constantly evolving although slowly.
Painting was done in watercolor and ink. The ink I used for the roadway is black Chinese calligraphy ink.
