Product Details

Our luxuriously soft blankets are available in two different sizes and feature incredible artwork on the top surface. The bottom surface is white. Our 100% polyester blankets are available in two different styles: plush fleece and sherpa fleece. Plush fleece blankets are soft and fluffy on both sides, whereas sherpa blankets are smooth like a soft sweater on the artwork side (i.e. shorter threads) which provides for a sharper image. Looking for a recommendation? Go with a 60" x 80" plush fleece blanket. It's soft and luxurious on both sides... the artwork looks incredible... and the size is just right for everyone.

Artist's Description

I visited the Empire Mine state historical park near Grass Valley/Nevada City and took the tour. Empire Mine was the largest, oldest, deepest, and richest gold mine in California history. I used a pen and ink to draw the cottage and filled in the color with watercolor. One of my experiments in mixed media combining ink with watercolor.

Here's a little more info on the cottage. Bourn reacquired control of the Empire Mine in 1896, forming the Empire Mines and Investment Co. In 1897, he commissioned Willis Polk to build the "Cottage", using waste rock from the mine. The "Cottage" included a greenhouse, gardens, fountains and a reflecting pool. Between 1898 and 1905, a clubhouse with tennis courts, bowling alley and squash courts were built nearby.

About William Lum

William Lum

My search to find my biological family was the genesis of my journey into the world of art. When I finally found my birth family, at the age of 40, I was plunged into a new and very different family. On one occasion while talking with the father I had never known, I discovered that my great uncle was the renowned watercolorist Dong Kingman. Fatefully discovering a cheap watercolor paint set, and intrigued by my relationship with Kingman, I wondered if I had inherited any of his talent. This lingering question spurred me into trying to paint. My first challenge was deciding what subjects I would paint. As a fan of Van Gogh, and knowing that he painted images from his day to day life: houses, fields, people working, I decided to do the...
