The Charismatic M.V. Grizzly is operated by the Corps of Engineers as part of the San Francisco Bay debris removal service. M.V. Grizzly is a Motor Vessel Based at Sausalito, California.
A painting from my first years of learning how to paint. This watercolor was done in 1995. It has special meaning to me because of family but from a connection to the boat. I had a wonderful Great Aunt Esther that found out that I had taken an interest in watercolor. She made a point of introducing me to her brother, my Great Uncle, Dong Kingman who was a world renowned watercolorist. I got to meet Kingman and one of his seminars in San Francisco. Part of the seminar was a field trip to Sausalito for painting. This is where I started the Grizzly painting which had to be finished by the morning of the following day for a seminar review of all the paintings. So when I see this painting, it reminds me of that experience of meeting Dong Kingman.
